Today in Hockey History: 1982-83 New York Islanders Win Fourth Straight Stanley  Cup

 Islanders vs.  Flyers (1980)

The former Long Island Islander’s “First Cup” was won in 1980 against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Islanders leading the series 3 – 2 and it would all come down to game six. The game was tied 4 – 4 going into overtime and won with the game-clinching goal by right winger Bobby Nystrom.

Islanders vs. North Stars (1981)

Sweeping rival team New York Rangers in the semis, the Islanders head back and win the Stanley Cup Championship in 1981 against Minnesota North Stars. The series was won in five games, 4 – 1, outscoring them by ten total points.

Islanders vs. Canucks (1982)

The Islanders would officially become a Dynasty Team sweeping the Vancouver Canucks in the championship. The series ended 4 – 0 after sweeping the Quebec Nordiques in the semifinals. The Islanders have now proven themselves as a power house team in the NHL and earned the much deserved respect.

Islanders vs. Oilers (1983)

The New York Islanders beat the Edmonton Oilers to become Stanley Cup Champions for the fourth time in a row. The Oilers, who were supposed to be the next dynasty team, were upset by the Islanders in four straight straight games. The Islanders had become only the second team to ever win the Stanley Cup four years in a row.
