Travel to Myanmar is not advised as of December 2023. This is because the country is in political turmoil due to the 2021 Coup D’etat, in which the military Junta seized control of the country. The Tatmadaw, Myanmar’s military, deemed the November 2020 election results invalid. The Tatmadaw has stated its intent to hold a new election at the end of the state of emergency, which has yet to take place. Violence, including explosions and shootings, can occur anywhere and anytime. Attacks are unpredictable as tensions rises across the country. Travel to Myanmar is dangerous and the threat of civil unrest as well as armed conflict looms across the nation, and travel is not advised.
