In this field of work, you need to be able to think like a criminal. You need to think of new ways to develop these things. Whether that be credit card skimmers or to forge legal documents. Direct the findings of basic scientific research in broader scientific fields applicable to forensic science. Apply forensic science research to the development of highly discriminating, accurate, reliable, cost-effective, rapid methods for the identification, analysis and interpretation of physical evidence. Forensics is not limited to just fingerprints and DNA tests though; forensic investigators often use ballistics tests, ballistic identification and firearms fingerprinting to identify criminals.
