History
Fort McHenry is an important place in our history. The fort was used in the battle of 1812. It is also the birthplace of the Star Spangled Banner. Fort McHenry was used in the War of 1812, Civil War, and even in the 20th century (National Park Service). The fort is no longer being used by the military, the last time being in World War II, and since has been a part of the National Park Service as a Historic Shrine (National Park Service).
What happens here?
They hold many events. In October there were naval ships there, which the fort would give tours of the ships that were there (Fort McHenry Events). The fort also hosts tours and reenactments, which help to bring the history of the location to life. When the air show is being held, Fort McHenry is a fantastic place to be to observe the planes flying over (Fort McHenry Events)
Why should people go?
People should go because it provides a great opportunity to learn more about the history of the U.S. It is thew birthplace of our national anthem. There are educational tours in order to learn more facts about it. It is an interesting place to just walk around and observe. If you are history fan, this should be on the list of places you want to visit. There is a lot of historical events that the fort has been a part of.
