Destination #5: Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
Our final destination was in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. During this time of the trip we were very tired and wanted a relaxing day to unwind, which was perfect for this location. We arrived at Amber Cove, where we witnessed beautiful homes on stilts and many water sport activities. Amber Cove is filled with tons of fun activities for all ages ranging from zip-lining, wind-surfing, sky bar, waterslides, and much much more. We decided to visit a local beach nearby which was about a 12 minute walk from Amber Cove. The most eventful part of Puerto Plata was Amber Cove and the abundance of activities within the resort.
To Do:
- Visit Amber Cove and enjoy the many water sports and activities they have to offer
- Take in the surroundings on a nice and calming hike to Damajagua, a natural made waterfall
- Take a dune buggy ride through the forest and around the different beaches and coasts
- Book one of the many wildlife tours around the island
- Take a cable car up to Isabel de Torres Peak, one of the highest points of the island
Fun Facts:
- Home to an amber museum including fossilized amber dating back thousands of years
- Includes the highest and lowest elevations the West Indies
- Their main sources of trade in the DR is tobacco, dairy, and cocoa
