Combine the flour, salt, and baking soda in a small basin. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Beat softened butter and sugars in a large basin using an electric mixer set to medium speed, or stir with a spoon for about a minute or until frothy, occasionally scraping down the side of the bowl. Add egg and vanilla and beat until smooth.
Dough will be firm; stir in flour mixture just until mixed. Add nuts and chocolate chips and stir.
Place dough by rounded tablespoonfuls two inches apart onto cookie sheets that have been ungreased or lined with parchment.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown (centers will be soft). Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes. Store covered in airtight container.
