The La Liga is the top division of Spanish soccer. This league consists of 20 clubs which also operates on a system of promotion and relegation. Founded in 1929, LaLiga has been the soccer stage for some of the best players, coaches, and teams the sport has ever seen. During the course of a season, which lasts from August to May, each club plays every other club twice, once at home and once away, for 38 matches.
Point System:
- Three points awarded for a win.
- One point awarded for a draw.
- No points awarded for a loss.
The club with the most point at the end of the season is awarded the La Liga title and is recognized as the best team in Spain.
At the end of the season, the bottom 3 clubs in the standings are relegated to the “Segunda División.” The top 2 teams in the “Segunda Divivión” automatically qualify for La Liga.
