When reaching out for help, you may be scared, but you should never let this fear stop you. There are many different treatment options for mental illnesses. There is talk therapy where you will sit with a trained professional to learn ways to cope with problems that arise from your mental illness or trauma.
Examples:
- CBT (cognitive behavior therapy)
- IPT (interpersonal psychotherapy)
- DBT (dialectical behavior therapy)
Each of these different types of therapies provide different ways for trained professionals to help an individual struggling mentally. Another method of treatment are medications. Psychiatrists prescribe medications based on the symptoms an individual presents with. Medications can be tricky because they have side effects that a patient may not like. For people that have trouble with these methods of treatment there are alternative methods as well. Examples are working out, mediating, and acupuncture.
No matter what method you choose to take when seeking treatment, it’s important that you don’t give up.
