Cults at Towson University in the 1960s and 70s (Spring 2024)

  • From the mid 1960s to mid 1970s, the campus of Towson University served as active recruitment grounds for several well-known religious cults, including the Unification Church. This project will explore how Towson students where recruited to join these cults and why they may have felt drawn to these types of organizations.

Tracking the Expansion of Towson University (Spring 2024)

  • Since it’s founding in 1866 as a Maryland Normal School, the university’s campus has been housed in three separate locations. This project aims to examine the school’s first two locations within Baltimore City and subsequent transfer to its current location, where it has since undergone periods of expansion. Ultimately, a story map will track the campus’s movement and growth, creating a visual representation of the university’s growth and change.
