A big reason to go after a degree in computer science: The Money
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says that the median annual wage for computer and information technology occupations was $97,430 in May 2021, more than twice as more as the median annual wage across all occupations ($45,760).
Also as workers gain experience and expertise, they may be able to advance their careers within their chosen field into roles such as project management where they oversee teams of programmers and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget or Leadership roles such as Chief Technology Officer or Chief Information Officer. Which of course, comes with a raise in wages.
The Indirect financial benefit of pursuing a computer science degree is the opportunities to work remotely, which can be beneficial for those who live in areas with high commuting costs or who have other obligations outside of work. This also allow computer science workers to take on additional work or explore side projects that can provide additional revenue, which useful for those trying to supplement their primary income or establish a portfolio of work that will lead to higher-paying possibilities in the future.
