Origin of PG

The story of Prince George's County's name — and why some take issue with its abbreviation
This PG County seal is found outside an office building in Bowie, Maryland

Prince George’s County Seal: Charles Beckwith of Patuxent created the seal in 1696. The four quarters of the coat of arms stand for Queen Anne, France, England, and the first and fourth great quarters, respectively; Scotland, the second grand quarter; and Ireland, the third grand quarter. The county’s motto, “Semper Eadem,” which translates to “Ever the Same,” is shown on the flag below.

Here’s a short documentary that gives the background of PG County and what it was like for us during the civil war! : https://www.pbs.org/video/mpt-classics-prince-georges-county-300-year-journey/
