Terminology

  • Tetromino: the general name for the blocks in used in Tetris games
  • Matrix: the 10×20 Tetris board in which tetrominoes are moved and placed
  • Well: a single column who’s depth is at least two blocks
  • Drought: the time spent waiting for a particular tetromino, typically referring to the number of tetrominoes until an I piece
  • Spire: one or more excessively tall columns on a stack
  • T-Spin: spin mechanic in which a T piece can be spun in a T-shaped gap to clear anywhere between one and three lines
  • Tetris: clearing four lines at once with an I piece
  • SRS: Super Rotation System, the guideline standard for all modern Tetris games
  • DAS: Delayed Auto Shift, how fast pieces move left or right
  • ARR: Auto Repeat Rate, delay for when pieces will begin moving left or right
