- The first playable version of Tetris is officially created in Moscow by Alexey Pajitnov
1985:
- Tetris is ported to IBM computers
1988:
- Pajitnov manages to sneak Tetris out of the Soviet Union and has help achieving PC and Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) ports in Japan
- Tetris officially sells over two million copies
1989:
- Tetris licensing rights are handed over to Nintendo
- The Game Boy is released across the globe and comes with Tetris as its one prepackaged game
1996:
- The Tetris Company (TTC) is founded and “becomes the exclusive source of all licenses to Tetris”
- Tetris Guidelines are established
2002:
- Tetris becomes the leader in mobile games across North America, Europe, and Korea
2006:
- Electronic Arts (EA) becomes the exclusive source of licenses for Tetris on mobile devices
- Tetris DS becomes the first wireless, multiplayer Tetris game
2008:
- EA releases Tetris for iPhone and iPod Touch
- Tetris becomes the number one casual game in Korea
2009:
- Tetris Friends is released quickly becoming the number one online multiplayer Tetris game
2010:
- Tetris surpasses 100 million mobile downloads and becomes the best-selling mobile game of all time
2011:
- Tetris becomes the number one game on the Playstation Network (PSN)
2012:
- Tetris becomes the top selling game Apple’s App Store
2014:
- Tetris surpasses 425 million mobile downloads
2015:
- Guinness World Record awards Tetris with the “Most Variants of a Videogame” title with 215 official variants
2017:
- Puyo Puyo Tetris is released
2018:
- Tetris Effect is released
2019:
- Tetris 99 is released
2020:
- Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is released
- Tetris Effect: Connected is released
- The mobile version of Tetris by EA is officially closed and the new version by N3TWORK Inc. is released
