StrategiesSetup for a Tetris

Whether it be survival or scoring the most points, the simplest strategy in Tetris is scoring four line clears, also called “Tetrises”. This can only be accomplished using the 4 long line block.

An easy way to accomplish this is to leave a one block well in the far right of the matrix

Another basic strategy for Tetris is to clear lines using T-spins. This strategy is most effective in competitive Tetris as it does the same attack as scoring a Tetris, but only uses two lines rather than four. Most variations of the game also score points for T-spins that are comparable to Tetrises.

There are many ways to accomplish a T-spin but in general, it is about spotting or setting up a T-shaped hole

Since most modern variations of Tetris use the 7-bag randomization system, it is possible to consistently start each game with the same opening setup, also known as an opener.
