History and fun facts
General History :
Long Island was originally owned by the native Americans. Much later, English settlers sailed to America and took over Long Island with it. During the 20th century Long Island experienced a period of rapid growth and suburbanization. Farm land was turned into neighborhoods with schools and parks. It quickly became the retreat for New York City. After the Second World War, Long Island’s population sky rocketed. The most famous neighborhood was Levittown as it was the model for the post WW2 suburban neighborhood. Today, Long Island is a beautiful place to live and visit. It is home to 37 state parks, as well as fine dining, and an overall beautiful atmosphere.
