Safety is an important part of your stay at Cancun as there has been an increase in gang violence and crimes, but is still safe to visit.

Here are some tips that you should follow for a safe and enjoyable stay in Cancun:
- Toilets marked with M are for women (Mujeres in Spanish).
- Do not be flashy with your money since pick pocketing is very common so you should only bring a reasonable amount of money with you when you’re out.
- Do not wear expensive jewelry or clothes since you will be a bigger target to get robbed and might even be kidnapped since you look “expensive”.
- Uber was illegal in Cancun so you should not use it. Save a few dollars and try not to risk getting involved with the law in Cancun.
- Don’t drink the tap water since the water usually gets exposed to bacteria in the types and tank that hold the water supply, however restaurants do serve water from a purified water source, so their water should be safe to drink.
- Keep your car doors locked and windows up since carjacking is also very popular and can even happen while waiting at a traffic light.
- Say “no” to drugs as many people in Mexico will try and sell then to you when in the open daylight and is one of the country’s worst problems, so it’s best if you just avoid them.
- Do not travel alone at night because most of the crimes in Cancun happen at night, so you should try to stay at your resort when the sun goes down, but if you are out, you should travel with your friends.
- Police like to pull over tourists expecting you to give them a cash tip when handing them your license.
- Be careful when using ATM’s because they are a common place for people to get robbed especially at night.
These are some of the things that you should be careful with when traveling to Cancun, but as long as you follow these tips and make good decisions, your trip in Cancun will be delightful and full of excitement!
