Europeans first arrived into the Ocean City area in the year 1524. Due to Ocean City being an isolated barrier island it remained a sleepy fishing village until the year 1875 when the Atlantic hotel began welcoming visitors. In the year 1900 they began to construct the boardwalk and open up amusements shortly after. In the year 1933 a powerful storm ripped open a new channel from the bay to the ocean which made engineers make the inlet permanent.
