Background Information

Hakeem Olajuwon is known as the most skilled center ever. Hakeem was the number 1 overall pick in the 1984 NBA draft by the Houston Rockets. He played the center position. Hakeem’s nickname was “The Dream” because he was so skillfull it looked like he dunked with ease.  His skill looked like it could come from a dream.  Hakeem played on the Rockets for most of his career. However, in 2001, the last year of his career, he played for the Toronto Raptors.

Accolades

Hakeem was the first international player not only to be named an all star, but to also start in an all star game. Hakeem was a 12 time all star. He was also the first international player to win the Most Valuable Player award and Defensive Player of the Year award when he won both in 1993. Furthermore, Hakeem won another MVP the following season.  He was back to back NBA Championships in 1994 and 1995 making him an 2 time NBA Champion. Hakeem won finals MVP for both of those seasons. Throughout his career, he averaged 21.8 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists a game. Hakeem’s strenth, athleticism, and size helped him become the most skilled center to step foot on an NBA court. Although he is not recognized enough for his amazing career, there are many centers today that look up to his greatness.
