Dulce Frio is a traditional Dominican Trifle Dish that my family made for me my first time visiting the Dominican Republic! This dish is very similar to Tres Leches Cake and will definitely become one of your favorite desserts!
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup condensed milk
- 2 Cup Evaporated milk
- 2 Egg Yolk
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup golden rum (optional)
- 20 lady fingers
- 1 cup of fresh fruit (or candied)
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream (chilled)
- 2 Tablespoons cream cheese (chilled)
- 1/3 cup powdered white sugar
Directions:
- Mix condensed and evaporated milk with egg yolks, cornstarch and vanilla extract.
- Boil over medium-low heat, and stir constantly until the mixture thickens to the same consistency as condensed milk. This should take 15-20 minutes.
- Remove the heat and place the mixture in a cold water bath. Stir until it cools down and is about room temperature.
- Dip the lady fingers into the rum and place a layer of lady fingers in the bottom of a baking dish.
- Pour half of the milk mixture over the lady fingers and place the remaining lady fingers on top.
- Chill this recipe for about an hour.
- Mix cream cheese, sugar and heavy cream until the consistency is fluffy like traditional whipped cream.
- After an hour, decorate the top of the dish with the whipped cream mixture and organize the fresh fruit on top.
- Before serving, chill for at least another hour!
- Cut into this amazing quick dish and ENJOY!
