Ibirapuera Park (Parque Ibirapuera) is a large urban park located in São Paulo, Brazil. Covering an area of 158 hectares (approx. 390 acres), it’s the most visited park in South America, with 14.4 million visits in 2017. It’s often described as a “green oasis at the heart of a concrete jungle.” 3
History Ibirapuera Park was inaugurated on August 21, 1954, for the 400th anniversary of the city of São Paulo. The park was designed along the lines of other great English landscape gardens built in the 20th century in major cities around the globe, but it was inspired by modern drafts from the landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx.
