What is a Blue Chip Stock?

Blue chip Stocks are stocks that are stable  and reliable. Meaning they have been around long time, have a good reputation in meeting expectations, and have a history of stable growth. They are also generally the largest stock in their respected industries.

 How did the name come to be?

“Blue chip stock” Started because when people played poker the highest valued chip was a blue color chip. This meant who ever had it had the most value.  Like the chip in poker the blue chip stocks are know to be the most valuable and stable.
