The next time that you want to go out to watch a movie with your friends and family, consider supporting the independents! Similar to shopping local, by visiting your neighborhood theatre you help support the local economy! Recliners seats are nice and all, but nothing beats watching a movie in a classy place with moviegoers who appreciate cinema. Your support of independent theatres also helps keep their history alive. History that continues to make an impact to the city in major ways.
Learning more about your neighborhood independent theatre, whether near Towson University or in your hometown, will open your eyes to a new world of cinema experiences. Even the smallest independent theatres have wonderful stories to share about the generations of families that continue to visit. The three theatres featured in this site are just the tip of the sword. There are still great independent neighborhood theatres around in other states, but many continue to die at a rapid pace. The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic sped up that pacing for many of the smaller theatres that were unable to receive as much help compared to the larger cinema-one-too-many chains, and sadly many theatres that were just barely hanging on were forced to shut their doors for good.
