SNF Parkway Theatre

Home of The Maryland Film Festival, The Parkway originally opened on October 23rd 1915 featuring “Zaza” starring Pauline Frederick and directed by Hugh Ford and Edwin S. Porter. The theatre was built by Henry W. Webb’s Northern Amusement Company. Its main auditorium was designed to resemble the West End Cinema Theatre/Rialto Theatre in London, England.

In 1926 the theatre was taken over by Loew’s Inc. and operated until the 1950s when it once again changed hands and operated as the Five West art house theatre, which operated until 1978. It wasn’t until 2013 when signs of new life for The Parkway came in the form of interest from The Maryland Film Festival, and in 2017 after an $18 million project, The Parkway reopened as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Parkway Film Center featuring an addition designed by Ziger/Snead architects. The Parkway reopened featuring the Opening Night Gala of the 19th annual Maryland Film Festival.
