My Pop Pop

I have the most amazing Pop Pop ever. He has done so much for me and I would do anything for him. In the last 2 years, he has had it pretty rough. In the end of 2019, his back was really messed up and he had to start using a cane and could no longer drive. I was picking him up everyday to get him where he needed to go. We got very, very close. In the beginning of 2020, he took the courageous decision to have major back surgery to completely fix his back. I was happy that the surgery was a success, but the aftermath was very scary. He was not taking the medicine he was supposed to and got very sick. This is when covid hit, so when he was in the hospital, no one could visit.  I called him one evening crying and upset that I might not get to see him again. About a week later, he said to me, “When you called me, I realized I got some years left to spend with you and everyone else.” My whole family was so sad and scared that he would pass away. Instead, he took all his medicine and fought his sicknesses off, and got out of the hospital. He has taught me that family is first priority, and to never stop fighting for what you want. I will live by this, and he will forever be my role model.
