A Guide to Basic Crochet Stitches

Single Crochet

  1. Make a starting chain
  2. Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook.
  3. Do one yarn over by looping your hook through the working yarn.
  4. Pull the yarn over through the second loop on your hook. (you will now have two loops on your hook.)
  5. Do another yarn over.
  6. Pull this yarn over through both loops on your hook. (There will now be one loop on your hook.) All done!
  7. Now repeat steps 4-7 to make more single crochet stitches until you reach the end of the chain.

Half Double Crochet

  1. Yarn over and insert hook into the next stitch.
  2. Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should now have three loops on your hook.
  3. Yarn over once more and pull the yarn through all three loops on the hook. All done!
  4. Now repeat steps 1-3 to make more single crochet stitches until you reach the end of the chain.

Double Crochet

  4. Now repeat steps 1-3 to make more single crochet stitches until you reach the end of the chain.
