Greyhounds are one of the oldest domesticated breeds of sighthound used for hunting and racing. Greyhounds are first seen in many ancient Egyptian imagery, and seen in Roman and Greek imagery as well. It was thought that Homer’s great hero, Odysseus, had a greyhound named Argus depicted in the Odyssey. Greyhounds are depicted in modern media too! Everyones favorite dog from the Simpsons, Santa’s Little Helper, is a Grey.

Greyhound racing became increasingly popular through the 1930s across the world. There is major debate over the ethicality of racing, and has since been outlawed in 42 states in the US.
