The JWST will travel through space and stop at a point known as the Second Lagrange point, aka L2. The Lagrange points are named after the astronomer Joseph-Louis Lagrange. This spot was chosen because of the effects of near-equal gravitation pull which means the JWST can remain fixed in this position while using much less propellant than other locations. The L2 is located on the far side of the Earth relative to the Sun which means the JWST will also contend with much less damaging heat energy which will in turn extend the mission life.
