The Washington Commanders, formerly known as the Washington Redskins, is a National Football League (NFL) team that has been around for almost a century. First founded in 1932 as the “Boston Braves,” and a year later they were named the “Redskin” and moved to Washington D.C. 5 years after that. Since that day until 2020, they were known as the Washington Redskins in which they had a name switch in 2022 because of racist allegations toward Native American Indians. This franchise has been an overall successful franchise until recent years, thriving the most in the 1980’s. They racked up three Super Bowl wins with five appearances going 3/5 for them and tow NFL championships, which was basically the Super Bowl before it was called that. The super bowl wins came in 1983 against the Miami Dolphins, 1988 against the Denver broncos, and 1992 against the Buffalo Bills with their NFL championships coming in 1937 and 1942. Since then, there hasn’t been much action with this team. They are apart of the Eastern National Football Conference (NFC East) with three other teams joining them, the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
