Remaining friends while adulting
A video that recently sparked conversation for my friends and I as we enter different stages of our life was a “Nice and Neat” Podcast episode titled “Your friends don’t understand your growth.”
As we entered the college environment, it became a task of intentionality to remain close friends. This is due to our values or circles changing and people becoming more firm in the types of conversations they want to engage in.
Some good points that were mentioned include:
- Respecting each other’s time
- Acknowledging that people change
- Control the controllable
- Be open to understanding just as much as communication
- Transparency usually yields longevity for all parties
I personally found the video to be inspiring because I was someone who usually avoided difficult conversations but once I practiced it more, I became more self-aware. Being able to have these conversations with my friends means a lot to me since we all learn as we grow and feel the impact of change within our circles.
