5 Seconds of Summer

5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) is an Australian band formed in 2011. Consisting of four high school friends, Luke Hemmings (lead vocals/guitar), Michael Clifford (vocals/lead guitar), Calum Hood (vocals/bass), and Ashton Irwin (vocals/drums) started posting covers on Youtube. After being discovered by Louis Tomlinson of One Direction, their fanbase exploded and quickly got signed to a record label. Their debut self-titled album released in 2014 was a smash hit, and the band eventually toured twice with One Direction. They quickly released their sophomore effort, Sounds Good Feels Good, with a subsequent tour. After a brief break to work on their sound, 5SOS released their third album Youngblood to even more commercial success. Their next album, CALM, was released March 2020 just as the COVID-19 pandemic started to spread. Their tour for that album was unfortunately cancelled, but the band used this time to reflect and work on even more music. Two members released solo albums while still being a part of the band and eventually released their newest single Complete Mess in March of this year. Their fifth album, aptly named 5SOS5, is set to be released in September, and the hype around the album is huge. 5SOS continues to grow and improve their musical sound with each release.

I discovered 5 Seconds of Summer through being a fan of One Direction, as often times their fanbases overlapped. I have seen 5SOS live 5 times, showing how much I love their music. Their sound changes with each album, and only gets better every time. I actually had the chance to meet them in 2015 and it was an amazing experience, they truly care about their fans. I cannot wait for their new album!
