Hometown

I grew up in Landover Maryland from birth until I was 14

Growing up in Landover, Maryland, provided me with a vibrant and diverse upbringing that shaped my upbringing in profound ways. Attending schools in the area, I cherished the rich tapestry of cultures that surrounded me, particularly the predominant Hispanic/Latinx population. This cultural mosaic infused my childhood with colorful celebrations, from lively quinceañeras to community fiestas, where the rhythm of salsa and the scent of homemade tamales filled the air.Despite all  my transition to Upper Marlboro brought its own set of experiences and challenges. While I initially missed the close-knit community and walkable neighborhoods of my old hometown, I quickly found solace in forging new connections and friendships in my new surroundings. Upper Marlboro offered a different pace of life, where sprawling suburban landscapes replaced the bustling streets I once roamed. While the lack of walkable amenities was an adjustment, it encouraged me to explore new hobbies and activities with friends, whether it was driving to nearby parks for outdoor adventures or gathering at each other’s homes for movie nights and backyard barbecues. Despite the differences between my old and new neighborhoods, the sense of community remained a constant thread, as I discovered that home is not defined by a location but by the people who fill it with warmth and laughter.
